LANSING – State Representative Woodrow Stanley (D-Flint) today was named Vice Chair of the House Committee on New Economy and Quality of Life for the 95th Legislature. Stanley also was named to the Urban Policy Committee, Regulatory Reform Committee, and the Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources Committee. In addition, Stanley was elected Second Vice Chairperson of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus (MLBC).
"This is a great honor and I'm excited to have this opportunity to work on behalf of the people of Flint," Stanley said. "I'd like to thank my colleagues for having the confidence to select me for these leadership positions. I look forward to getting to work on creating good-paying jobs now for our residents and getting our economy back on track."
Stanley replaces term-limited Representative Brenda Clack (D-Flint) on the MLBC. The MLBC is a
coalition of 25 state legislators who are committed to ensuring that all Michigan citizens have equal opportunities.
Stanley's priorities for the 95th Legislature include creating good-paying jobs that cannot be outsourced and growing
Michigan's economy by supporting high-demand fields like renewable energy. Stanley also plans to focus on increasing
access to higher education for all Michigan students, as well as fighting foreclosure by attracting local investment and
revitalizing local neighborhoods. He is keenly committed to promoting high-quality and affordable health care for
Michigan residents, while tackling the health challenges that are prevalent among minority residents.
"Tough times call for tough, effective leadership," Stanley said. "With families across Michigan struggling, we need to
chart a new way forward. I'm confident that if we work toward a common goal of helping people lift themselves out of
poverty and realize their potential by having access to quality health care and our best schools and universities, we
will build a brighter future for Michigan."
